Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has dismissed speculation that he is in talks to return to the team.
News About Nigeria reports that he made this known in an interview with Soccernet.
Peseiro stated that neither the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) nor the Ministry of Sports have contacted him about a possible return.
In one report by AIT, it was said that Sports Minister John Enoh contacted Peseiro over a possible return to the Super Eagles.
“The sports minister is in talks with Peseiro’s representatives, he wants him to return.
“Peseiro is open to returning too. The situation will become clearer in the coming days,” a source was quoted as saying.
Peseiro’s contract with the NFF expired in February, and despite leading the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, he announced his departure on March 1 due to contractual disagreements.
Since then, the NFF has been searching for a new coach, with several candidates linked to the role, including Emmanuel Amunike, Michael Nsien, and three European coaches.
However, Peseiro has put to rest rumours that he is in discussions with the Ministry of Sports, saying he is currently enjoying his holiday and keeping up with matches, including upcoming Real Madrid games.
The 63-year-old Portuguese coach has yet to secure a new job, despite his boosted profile following Nigeria’s impressive AFCON outing.
He has been linked to various vacant positions in South Africa, Egypt, and the Cameroon national team coaching role but has not committed to any deal.
