The residents of Zurmi town, the headquarters of the Zurmi local government in Zamfara State, have been thrown into a state of panic as bandits storm the Emir’s palace in a fresh attack, News About Nigeria reports.
A source who pleaded anonymity disclosed this to newsmen, stating that the bandits had, on arrival, gone straight to the emir’s palace and started shooting sporadically.
Another resident, identified as Malam Aminu Sale, noted that the attack was an attempt to abduct the emir, Alhaji Muhammed Bunu, but thankfully, the emir was whisked away by the security agents to Gusau before the bandits could get a hold of him.
He, however, disclosed that when the bandits failed in their attempt to abduct the emir, they went on a rampage, destroying one of the transformers and a telecom mast network booster.
He added that three people were killed and several others kidnapped during the attack.
“In fact, we, the residents of Zurmi town, have witnessed a terrible situation from the bandits’ attacks. This is not the first time the bandits have entered Zurmi; it is not the second time.
“Similarly, the bandits had again attacked Maru town on Wednesday, the headquarters of Maru local government council, where they killed one person and kidnapped three people in their invasion,” another resident of Maru town, who identified himself as Aminu Maru, stated.
Maru further stated that the bandits, who entered the town at about 11:00 pm on Wednesday, also attacked the house of a former Military Administrator of Nasarawa State, Col. Bala Mande (Rtd), adding that they spent more than two hours operating in the town.
