Aisha Galadima, the women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, who was suspended by Governor Uba Sani a few weeks ago, has sued the State Security Service (SSS) for illegally detaining and torturing her.
News About Nigeria reported that Galadima, a political ally of the former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai, was arrested on April 14 by the SSS following her ill remarks against Governor Sani on social media.
Galadima had slammed the governor for accusing former governor Nasir El-Rufai of throwing Kaduna State into debt, making it impossible for him even to pay workers their salaries.
The governor lamented that, due to the rise in the exchange rate, the state is now paying back almost triple what was borrowed by the previous administration.
In her suit against the SSS, Galadima, through her lawyer, Ajayi Olowo, prayed the court to declare her alleged arrest, incarceration, and torture as illegal, unconstitutional, and oppressive.
She also said that the harsh treatment she receives from the SSS violates her fundamental human rights as guaranteed by Section 35 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.
She, therefore, asked the court to order the respondents to tender an apology to her in writing within seven days of the court granting the relief.
The embattled women’s leader also prayed to the court to award damages against the respondents in the sum of N500 million.
This, according to her, is because the security agency hampered her rights as a citizen.
