Man, Two Others Die From Pit Toilet Accident In Kano

A man identified as Malam Danjuma, his son, Aminu Gaye, and one other, simply identified as Ibrahim, have reportedly lost their lives in a pit toilet accident, in Tsanyawa Local Government in Kano State on Sunday, News About Nigeria reports.

This incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi.

Abdullahi disclosed that the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday morning, claiming the lives of the 60-year-old man, his son, and one other, both 35 years of age.

He, however, revealed that one other victim, identified as Abba Alasan, 28 years of age, was rescued from the latrine.

Abdullahi noted that the incident took place while the victims were trying to recover a cell phone from the latrine at Yar’Gwanda village.

According to him, the father fell while trying to recover the phone, and the son entered the pit toilet to save his father and also got trapped.

He added that Gaye and Alasan also entered to rescue both men and got trapped.

“We received an emergency call from Tsanyawa Fire Station at about 11:00 a.m. from one Aminu Yar’gwanda that four men had been trapped inside a pit latrine.

“We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 11:15 a.m.

“Danjuma was trying to retrieve a cellphone that fell into the pit latrine when he got trapped. Thereafter, his son entered the pit toilet to save his father and also got trapped,” he said.

He stated that all the victims were handed over to Mr Iro Lado, a superintendent of police, at the Tsanyawa Police Division and were later taken to the Bichi Special Hospital for medical attention, where doctors confirmed the trio dead and one still alive.
