A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Usman Na’Abba, has lifted the suspension on Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
News About Nigeria reports that the court had earlier granted an order suspending Ganduje as chairman of the party following a motion ex-parte filed by Haladu Gwanjo and Laminu Sani Barguma, who claimed to be the chairman and secretary of the APC Ganduje Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government area.
However, Justice Na’Abba vacated the order on Monday after hearing a motion filed by Ganduje’s counsel, L.O. Oyewoo, A. Falana Esq, and J. Essiet.
The court granted an interim injunction, staying the execution of the earlier order pending the hearing and determination of Ganduje’s motion on notice.
“After hearing, Mr L. O. Oyewoo, A. Falana Esq and J. Essiet , counsel of the 4th Respondent/Applicant, an order of interim injunction is hereby granted,” he held.
The court adjourned the matter until April 30 for a hearing of the case.
With this development, Ganduje’s membership of the APC may not be fully restored.
Recall that on Sunday, the Ganduje was suspended by a new ward executive committee in Ganduje ward, Tofa Local Government Area, Kano State.
The new ward exco, led by Secretary Jaafar Adamu, claims to be the authentic members of Ganduje ward, legally elected on July 31, 2021.
“We are the authentic executives of Ganduje ward and have passed a vote of no confidence and imposed new suspension on Dr Umar Ganduje,” they said.
Ganduje is facing various opposition with the APC with many calling for his resignation following allegations of corruption.
