Fubara Swears In 23 Newly Elected LG Chairmen

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced an over 100% increase in the state’s monthly internally generated revenue (IGR).

The IGR, the governor says, has risen from about N11 billion to between N26 and N27 billion in just a year under his leadership, News About Nigeria reports.

Governor Fubara disclosed while speaking to members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Account, who visited him at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The purpose of the visit was to commend his government for hosting their retreat.

The governor expressed gratitude to the Representatives Committee for choosing Rivers for their retreat and assured them that the additional funds would mainly go into agriculture, education, and healthcare.

He showcased his administration’s achievements, including the promotion of over 52,000 civil servants who had not received promotions in 11 years, leading to a rise in the wage bill.

Fubara stressed his administration’s commitment to fighting social vices through education and job creation.

He added that he is dedicated to transparency and accountability, having served as the Accountant General of Rivers before becoming Governor.

Regarding the political crisis in Rivers State, Governor Fubara commended his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, for supporting him amidst internal opposition within their party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor is embroiled in an ongoing political struggle with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Recall that Fubara was in attendance at the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

Other dignitaries include Atiku Abubakar, who ran for the presidency under the party last year, his running mate Ifeanyi Okowa, and Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
