Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, the elder statesman and former governor of Oyo State, has debunked rumours circulating about his death, News About Nigeria reports.
Following the false reports regarding his demise by various media outlets, Dr. Olunloyo clarified to newsmen that he was alive and in good health.
Addressing reporters on Friday from his residence in Molete, Ibadan, the state capital, Dr. Olunloyo said, “I’m still here, not yet gone. Those spreading rumours of death, and the individuals presumed dead, will all pass away one day. I’ve been fortunate. My father passed away at 42, while my mother lived to be 102. At 89, I’ve surpassed the expected lifespan.”
Recalling previous instances of false reports regarding his death, Dr. Olunloyo reflected on a similar incident on June 7, 2022, when news of his passing circulated widely, claiming he had died at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.
At the time, the management of UCH confirmed that Dr. Olunloyo was alive.
Mr. Toye Akinrinlola, the Public Relations Officer of UCH, dispelled the rumours, affirming that Dr. Olunloyo, then 87, was indeed alive and receiving medical attention in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Akinrinlola assured the public of Dr. Olunloyo’s stable condition, assuring them that he was under the best possible care.
Responding to the purported death reports, the family of the former governor refuted the claims, labeling them as false.
They urged Nigerians to pray for Dr. Olunloyo’s swift recovery and issued a statement saying that they would be honest and transparent in sharing updates about his health status.
In their statement, the family expressed gratitude for the public’s concern and goodwill, requesting continued prayers for Dr. Olunloyo’s health and well-being.
