The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has vowed to carry out stringent measures against infractions in the forthcoming UTME exams, News About Nigeria reports.
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this while speaking in a meeting with operators and owners of the CBT centres on Wednesday.
Some of the measures proposed by the Registrar include the arrest of any parent found near any of their facilities during the 2024 UTME exercise and the disqualification of candidates whose parents are found breaching the directive to not intrude, among others.
He noted that these measures have become necessary as it has been discovered over time that many of the parents who intrude during the UTME examinations are facilitators of examination infractions, adding that others have, by their actions, disrupted the Board’s examinations in the past.
The spokesman of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, revealed in a statement that the steps being taken by the board are aimed at preventing some parents from intruding into the conduct of the exam.
“This measure is necessary as it has been discovered over time that many of these intruding parents are facilitators of examination infractions while others have, by their actions, disrupted the Board’s examinations in the past. Some miscreants also disguise themselves as parents to infiltrate the centres to perpetrate all forms of infractions,” the statement reads in part.
Prof. Oloyede further stated that security agents will be working closely with the owners of CBT centres to ensure the smooth running of the exercise.
He added that the board will make adequate provision to tackle any technical glitch that might occur in the course of the examination to ensure a seamless exercise.
