Yoruba Nation Agitators Appear Before Court

At least 29 agitators of the Yoruba Nation have been brought before the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, News About Nigeria reports.

They were arraigned by the police for their involvement in the failed invasion of the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly.

The agitators were also arraigned on seven counts of treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace, in a charge with number Mi/520c/2024, and the case is between the Commissioner of Police and the 29 suspects.

Recall that on Saturday, April 13, 2024, some masked persons suspected to be Yoruba Nation agitators invaded the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, to hoist their flag before they were demobilised by the joint security personnel.

The state government vowed severe punishment for anyone who brews trouble in the state under the guise of agitating for the Yoruba nation, adding that it would go against anybody who worked against Nigeria.

However, the leader of the Yoruba Nation Youths both at home and abroad, Prophet Ayodele Ologunloluwa, stated that the group has no plans of making trouble as they are not troublemakers but are only agitating for the actualization of the Yoruba Sovereign State.

On the other hand, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, condemned the attack by the self-acclaimed Yoruba Nation agitators on the State Secretariat in Ibadan.

He noted that the agitators went about the wrong way of clamouring for their needs and added that it could have been done without the bloodshed.

The Investigative Police Officer, Bakare Rasaq, however, stated that the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
