Osun Governor Unveils New State Logo

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has officially signed into law a bill adopting a new logo for the state, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said that the new symbol is not only aesthetically pleasing but also holds significant meaning that resonates with the state’s history, values, and aspirations.

He explained that the logo contains symbols representing the state’s landmarks, strengths, resources, and history, serving as valuable educational resource material.

Moreover, Governor Adeleke said that the logo is a tool for marketing the state both domestically and internationally.

He expressed optimism that the adoption of the new logo would usher in a period of prosperity, abundance, and sustainability for the people of Osun State.

  • The circle symbolises perfection and wholeness.
  • Y represents the unity of the three senatorial districts in Osun State.
  • The Osun River signifies the state’s identity as the ‘State of the Living Spring’ and the source of life and nourishment.
  • Brown agricultural soil represents fertility and a source of food.
  • Mountains symbolise tourism, hospitality, and spirituality, reflecting the state’s hilly terrain.
  • Ori Olokun represents the common origin of the Yoruba race and is significant for royalty.
  • Rays of Light (Imole) symbolise clarity, enlightenment, hope, and guidance.
  • 1991: This represents the year the state was established.
  • Natural Resources are depicted through symbols such as cocoa leaves/fruits/tree, leaves, gold, and fishes, representing agriculture, logging, cash crops, longevity, triumph, and sources of revenue.
  • Colours: Gold, Ruby Red, Orange, and Yellow symbolise royalty, nobility, hospitality, and happiness, respectively.

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, also commended the governor for the initiative, describing the new logo as meaningful and representative of the state’s people, heritage, and potential.

He assured that the State Assembly would continue to support the executive arm of government in implementing laudable initiatives for the benefit of the state.
