Strengthen, Don’t Scrap EFCC, Says Gov. Fintiri

The Adamawa State Government has approved an additional budget of N55,256,595,280 for the year 2024.

News About Nigeria reports that the disclosure was made known after a meeting of the Adamawa State Executive Council (SEC) in Yola on Tuesday.

Mrs. Neido Kufalto, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, who made the announcement, said, “We have a working governor who does not want to start work and stop halfway into the projects.

“That is the reason why SEC called for an emergency meeting to approve the supplementary budget.”

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, focused on ensuring that ongoing projects in the state could proceed without interruption.

The approved funds will benefit various sectors, including education, agriculture, women’s affairs, housing, commerce, trade, industry, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and the Works and Energy Development Ministry.

Mr. Emmanuel Piridimso, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, who commented on the budget, explained that the approval came after the state received additional funds.

“The state had another inflow of funds, hence approval of the supplementary budget.

“There are projects that were hitherto not included in the 2024 budget, but with the inflow, they are now added to the budget,” Piridimso explained.

Recall that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in December 2023 signed into law a N225.8 billion appropriation bill, tagged the ‘Budget of Reengineering’, as the budget of the state for the 2024 fiscal year.

He stated that the budget is designed to allocate a minimum of N1 billion worth of projects to each local government area.

The 2024 estimate allocated N111.3 billion, which is 49.3% of the total, for recurrent services, while N114.5 billion, representing 50.7%, was earmarked for capital expenditure.
