The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, has condemned the attack by self-acclaimed Yoruba Nation agitators on the State Secretariat in Ibadan, News About Nigeria reports.
The commissioner expressed his disappointment in the attack while speaking to newsmen on Monday.
He noted that the agitators went about the wrong way of clamouring for their needs, adding that it could have been done without the bloodshed.
Recall that on Saturday morning, some masked people in military camouflage suspected to be Yoruba Nation agitators invaded the Secretariat, Agodi, in Ibadan.
According to report, the masked men were stationed at different locations within the area, which resulted in a panic as residents and road users along the routes scurried away.
It was reported that people in the vicinity of Bodija, Ikolaba, and Awolowo swiftly locked up their doors and shops.
Reacting to this, Oyelade noted that the sponsors of the agitators only succeeded in bringing trouble to themselves, as the attack is an act of terrorism.
“Sponsors of the invasion of the Governor and State House of Assembly’s office have succeeded in landing themselves in serious trouble.
“Attempting to barge into the hallowed chambers of the legislature and take it over with an arsenal of seven pump-action submachine guns and over 700 live cartridges is an act of terrorism,” he stated.
Similarly, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, while speaking in an interview on Arise TV on Monday, stated that it is foolishness to take up arms against the government as this is an act of treason.
He noted that the most sensible approach to issues is to exercise freedom of speech and engage the government in dialogue rather than trying to fight the government.
