Pelumi Nubi, the solo driver who drove from London to Lagos State, has been appointed as the state tourism ambassador, News About Nigeria reports.
The announcement was made by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a tweet via his profile on X on Monday.
He disclosed that the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the appointment after the 28-year-old travel content creator arrived in Lagos from London on Sunday.
He also noted that Pelumi will get various gifts in addition to her ambassadorial role, including a brand new car, a new home in Lagos, and a customised plate number.
All the resources that she spent on the trip will also be taken care of by the Lagos State government.
“Welcome, Pelumi Nubi @peluminubi_, Our Brand New Lagos Ambassador, She gets a brand New car from Governor @jidesanwoolu, A new home in Lagos, a customised plate number and one more thing, she is donating her vehicle (the one she used for the trip) to our brand new J Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History as a monumental gift to Lagos State,” he stated.
Recall that Nubi, who completed her solo road trip from London, United Kingdom, to Lagos, Nigeria, was received at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border on behalf of Lagos State Government by the state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and the Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe on Sunday.
She embarked on her solo trip in a car on January 30, 2024, and arrived on April 7, 2024, spending over 60 days on the road.
