Kidnappers Abduct UNIZIK Student Travelling For Burial

Kidnappers have reportedly abducted a student of the Department of Science Education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Francisca Chioma.

News About Nigeria gathered that the whereabouts of Chioma, who was on her way to attend a burial in a village outside Awka, Anambra State, on Friday, have remained unknown till now.

Confirming her abduction, the Chief Security Officer of the institution, Ken Chukwurah, revealed that the DSS is fully aware of the case and a top-tier investigation is ongoing to ascertain her whereabouts.

He further stated that Chioma’s abductors have contacted her family, though he has no idea whether they are demanding ransom or not.

He said, “Yes, it is true. DSS has been fully in the picture since yesterday. We are working with them. We got information that one of our students was on her way to attend a funeral ceremony in a village outside Awka when the incident happened and since then she has not been found. It is also important to note that the incident did not happen in the school; we have to be clear about it. We have contacted the relevant security agencies, and the ‘kidnappers’ have contacted the family. We are not aware if they have requested any ransom or not.”

Also, one of Chioma’s schoolmates and a friend, who spoke anonymously to newsmen, confirmed that Chioma left school to attend a burial outside Awka on Friday.

She further noted that, though they heard that she was kidnapped, her friends and colleagues have been calling her on the phone to no avail.

The source said, “She is my friend and also a student at my school in the Science Education Department. Her name is Francisca Chioma. She left for a funeral ceremony somewhere in a village outside Awka on Friday and until now, her whereabouts are still unknown. There are indications that she might have been kidnapped along Omasiunu area of Anambra State. We have called her telephone line several times, and it is not responding.”
