The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has backed Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, saying the list circulating in the media claiming to be the party’s Caretaker Committee members was fake.
The NWC clarified its stance after a meeting with Governor Fubara in Abuja, stating that the resolutions from a prior meeting in March remain valid, News About Nigeria reports.
In a letter dated March 27, 2024, the NWC reaffirmed its support for the current executive officers until the end of their extended tenure, dismissing the purported list as misleading.
The letter, signed by the National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, also affirmed the authenticity of the Caretaker Committees in Rivers State.
Recall that on Thursday, Governor Fubara reiterated the party’s position, urging affected officers to remain calm amidst the confusion caused by the false list.
He condemned the circulation of the list published in some national dailies and circulated on social media, attributing it to political opponents aiming to disrupt governance in the state.
The Governor cautioned individuals whose names were falsely included in the counterfeit list of alleged Caretaker Committee members circulating not to be misled by individuals offering undeserved appointments.
He advised them to refrain from presenting themselves or appearing at party offices under the pretence of holding official positions.
Governor Fubara warned that those caught would be subject to legal consequences, facing charges for forgery and impersonation.
Lately, the governor has been grappling with political challenges. Two days ago, Fubara pledged his dedication to a peace agreement brokered with President Bola Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
He, however, vowed to prove doubters who perceive it as a sign of weakness wrong, if need be.
He said his respect for President Tinubu was the reason for his decision.
Fubara made these remarks during a solidarity rally organised by local government employees from the 23 local government areas, held at the Government House Gate in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Fubara said there have been various comments in the media on the implementation of the peace initiative but he has chosen to be silent out of maturity and wisdom.
The governor is currently engaged in a political feud with his predecessor and fellow member of the PDP, Nyesom Wike.
