The Katsina State Police Command has announced that the Joint Task Force (JTF) rescued about 28 children who were kidnapped on the outskirts of Kasia village in Batsari LGA, Katsina State, News About Nigeria reports.
This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesperson of the command, ASP Sadiq Aliyu, on Tuesday.
He stated that the girls had been abducted while fetching firewood on April 1.
He noted that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Abubakar, deployed operatives of the command to rescue the children and ensure they returned safely.
“On the 1st of April, 2024, at about 1030 hrs, about twenty-eight (28) girls who went to the outskirts of Kasai village, Batsari LGA, Katsina State, with intent to fetch firewood, were abducted by kidnappers.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Police Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, psc+, swiftly deployed operatives to the scene, tasked with the unhurt rescue of the victims,” the statement reads in part.
He added that the children have been rescued and are safe and sound.
“The victims, who were held against their will, have now regained freedom and are safe and sound,” he added.
ASP Sadiq Aliyu also stressed that the collaborative effort of the rescue team, in conjunction with the strategic approach taken by the command, resulted in the release of all the abducted victims.
He commended the operatives of the command for their swift response in seeing that the children returned safely without any harm, adding that the safety of the people will always be a priority.
