19 Students Rusticated From Unilorin For Various Offences

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) on Monday expelled and rusticated 19 students, including six final-year students of the institution, for various offences, News About Nigeria reports.

Their expulsion was disclosed by the director of Corporate Affairs of the institution, Kunle Akogun, in a statement released today (Monday).

According to Akogun, the vice chancellor of the university, Wahab Egbewole (SAN) approved the expulsion/rustication of the affected students which was recommended by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its 220th/221st meeting.

Akogun explained that the affected students were penalised for offences ranging from misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering.

Other offences committed by the students that led to their expulsion/rustication include; beating a fellow student, admission racketeering, extortion and assault.

He further noted that the penalties for the offences committed by the students include suspension for either one semester or one academic session.

Akogun also noted that some of the students are facing outright expulsion from the school.

“The affected students were in various academic levels such as 100, 200, 300 and 400 Levels,” he stated.

Akogun also revealed that the affected students are from different faculties and departments in the school, such as Agriculture/Aquaculture and Fisheries; Agriculture/Agricultural Extension and Rural Development; Arts/Linguistics and Nigerian Languages;

Others include; Education/Adult and Primary Education Studies; Engineering and Tech/Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Engr and Tech/ Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Life Science/Zoology, CIS/Library and Information Science, as well as CIS/ Telecommunication Science.

In the statement, Akogun noted that the disciplinary measure employed by the school is to instil discipline culture in the rusticated students and among other students of the school.
