The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the appointment of caretaker committees to oversee the party’s affairs in states, local government areas (LGAs), and wards where the tenures of executives have expired, News About Nigeria reports.

This decision follows the review of the tenure of executives in 26 states, whose terms had elapsed, as hinted by the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, during a meeting of the National Working Committee with state chairmen on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Friday, the PDP disclosed that caretaker committees have been formed in 21 states to manage the party’s activities at their respective levels for a period of three months.

The statement explained that the caretaker committees were appointed in accordance with the provisions of Section 29 (2) (b) of the party’s constitution, on behalf of the National Executive Committee.

According to the statement, the caretaker committees will assume their duties in various states, LGAs, and wards based on specific commencement dates as follows:

Abia State and its local government: from March 22, 2024, while at the ward level, from March 15, 2024.

Akwa Ibom State LGAs: from March 21, 2024, and at the ward level, from March 7, 2024.

Bauchi State LGAs: from March 22, 2024, and at the ward level, from March 14, 2024.

Bayelsa State LGAs: from March 23, 2024, and at the ward level, from March 21, 2024.

Benue State: from March 21, 2024, at the ward level, and from March 7, 2024.

Cross River State: from March 21, 2024, at the ward level, and from March 7, 2024.

Delta State: from March 21, 2024, at both state and ward levels, from March 7, 2024.

However, the PDP clarified that vacancies in the respective executives due to death, defection, or resignation should not be filled in the caretaker committees.

The party urged leaders, stakeholders, and members to collaborate and ensure the stability, growth, and success of the PDP across all levels in their respective states, LGAs, and wards.
