The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has stated that about 35,000 personnel from the agency will be working to ensure that there is maximum safety as Christians in the country celebrate Easter this weekend, News About Nigeria reports.
The Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Corps spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, on Thursday.
He noted that the officers will provide watertight security before, during, and after the festivity to protect lives and property, including critical national assets and infrastructure.
He further noted that the Defence Corps will be employing overt and covert strategies, including surveillance to protect oil installations, railway tracks, power and telecommunications, and other facilities in the country.
“The deployment, comprising officers and men and targeting no fewer than 35,000 personnel, is to provide watertight security before, during, and after the festivity to protect lives and property, including critical national assets and infrastructure.
“While the deployment is to yield the desired result of maximum security through overt and covert operations, the CG reiterates that oil installations, railway tracks, power and telecommunications, schools, as well as recreational facilities should be adequately protected through surveillance,” he stated.
He, therefore, appealed to members of the public to support him by giving useful and timely information on suspected acts and persons for prompt and appropriate response.
According to the statement, the Commander General asked operatives in the Anti-Vandal Unit, Special Intelligence Squad, Transport and Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, Special Force, Special Weapon and Tactics, Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Crack Squad, and Rapid Response Squad, among others, to ensure round-the-clock surveillance as contained in the operational order.
