The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has debunked the report that it reduced the price of fuel in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The Chief Communications Officer of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, debunked the speculations ongoing in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to him, the reports of a downward review of fuel prices credited to it are unfounded.
Recall that it had been reported earlier that the NNPCL was set to drop the price of fuel from N640 per litre to N630 per litre.
However, reacting to this, NNPCL stated that the prices for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil, have not been reviewed.
NNPC Ltd also reaffirms its commitment to sustaining the current sufficiency in petroleum products supply across all its retail stations in the country.
“The NNPC Limited wishes to clarify rumours suggesting a price adjustment for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) at its retail stations nationwide.
“The company asserts that these reports are false and urges Nigerians to disregard them entirely.
“NNPC Ltd reaffirms its commitment to sustaining the current sufficiency in petroleum products supply across all its retail stations in the country,” the statement reads in part.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN), had however, stated that fuel costs in Nigeria will drop once the Port Harcourt Refinery commences operations, while promising that the refinery would begin operations in two weeks. As a result of this, marketers are gearing up to receive products from the facility.
