Five Arrested For Disrupting LP Convention

Five persons have been arrested by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly disrupting the Labour Party (LP) Convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, News About Nigeria reports.

The arrest of the persons who were described as hoodlums was made at the Grand Seasons Hotel in Anambra on Wednesday.

According to reports, the arrested persons were found distributing inciting leaflets critical of the leadership of the party at the venue of the convention.

They were accused of trying to cause a crisis at the ongoing national convention of the Labour Party, LP, and have been taken to the police headquarters for questioning.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, stated that the intention of the criminal elements and their sponsors was to destabilise the convention, adding that the leaders of the party are currently managing every piece of information to avoid stirring unnecessary political tension.

Recall that the Labour Party has been experiencing a crisis following a leadership tussle over who will become the national chairman of the party.

It was also discovered that journalists were also barred from entering the venue of the convention.

It was disclosed that a series of calls and text messages were sent to the spokesman for the party, Obiorah Ifoh, urging him to provide journalists with tags that could facilitate their entry into the venue, but were rebuffed.

It was also reported that, as of the time of filing this report, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, HE Peter Obi, was yet to be present for the party’s national convention.
