A Chinese man, Frank Geng-Quangrong, who killed his 22-year-old Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukalthuum Buhari in 2022 have been sentenced to death.

In its judgement today, the Kano State High Court sentenced the Chinese national, to death by hanging for the murder of his girlfriend.

News About Nigeria recalls that Quangrong allegedly killed his girlfriend, Buhari, following a misunderstanding.

The tragic incident happened on September 16, 2022, at Janbulo Quarters in Kano.

The 47-year-old who was accused of culpable homicide in the death of his girlfriend, Buhari, denied killing her intentionally and pleaded with Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji of the Kano State High Court to temper justice with mercy.

In his testimony on Tuesday, the Chinese national claimed that he didn’t stab his girlfriend intentionally but in self-defence after she allegedly grabbed his testes.

In his own words, “I didn’t kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she grabbed my testes.”

However, Justice Ado-Ma’aji, in his judgement held that, the defendant testimony is inconsistent and lacks believability, adding that the prosecution, led by the Attorney-General of Kano State, Haruna Dederi, successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He therefore found him guilty, sentencing him to death by hanging.

“The defendant’s testimony is inconsistent. I hereby find him guilty,” Justice Ado-Ma’aji said.

He, however, recommended mercy on behalf of the convict to be considered by the Kano State governor.

Speaking after the verdict, the victim’s mother, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, lauded the court for giving justice to her late daughter.

While expressing her satisfaction with the court’s decision, the mother of the victim noted that the ruling serves as a testament to the pursuit of justice for victims of violent crimes in the region.
