The Kogi State Police Command has stated that an investigation will begin into the killings of two clergymen, the General Overseer of Mount of Solution Redeemed Church, Ikot Ekang, Abak Local Government Area, Prophet Elisha Asuquo, and his pastor, Apostle Aniekan Ibanga, News About Nigeria reports.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Odiko MacDon, disclosed this on Tuesday, stating that the investigations will commence on the order of the Commissioner of Police in the State Command, Mr. Waheed Ayilara.

He noted that the Police Command is on the trail of the killers, adding that the perpetrators will be apprehended in no distant time.

“We condemn the killing in totality. The Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, has ordered a discreet investigation into the matter. So investigation has commenced, and the perpetrators will be brought to book soon.

“The police are on their trail and I know that it won’t take long before they pay for their atrocities. We are closing in on them. Why go to the church to harm people? What is it that one cannot approach law enforcement agencies to see how it can be resolved?” he stated.

It had been reported that both Prophet Elisha Asuquo and Apostle Aniekan Ibanga, natives of Adiasim in EssienUdim LGA and Ikot Obioikpa village, Afaha Obong Clan in Abak local government area, respectively, were shot dead by gunmen suspected to be hired assassins during a meeting within the church premises last Friday.

MacDon further noted that the Command was against any form of jungle justice, and urged residents to eschew the act of jungle justice, stressing that an innocent person might end up being hurt or killed.

According to him, jungle justice is a miscarriage of justice.
