Alumni of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) have strongly condemned the killing of military personnel during a communal clash in Delta State.
News About Nigeria reported that the Defence Headquarters confirmed on Saturday that a total of 15 soldiers were killed in the clash between the Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state.
NIPSS, a policy formation centre for bureaucrats, private sector leaders, military officers, and senior civil servants, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the soldiers.
In a statement issued by the president of the alumni association, Emmanuel Okafor, the killing was described as an “unforgivable affront to our nation’s values.”
The statement demanded swift and decisive action from both the Federal and Delta State governments.
It called for the perpetrators, including community leaders, to face the full force of the law.
The alumni stressed that those responsible for the attack must not escape justice and urged authorities to ensure swift prosecution.
Expressing concern about the potential impact of the attack on future peace efforts, the NIPSS alumni urged the government to take decisive measures to prevent similar incidents.
They stressed the importance of holding accountable not only the perpetrators but also the traditional rulers overseeing the affected communities.
“This cowardly attack not only dampens our spirits but also threatens future peace efforts as it strikes at the heart of our nation’s resolve for peace. The government must take decisive measures to prevent such atrocities from recurring. The culprits, especially the youths involved, must be swiftly brought to justice. The traditional rulers overseeing this tragedy must face consequences for their negligence, ” the statement added
