President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Zubaida Umar as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), replacing Mustapha Ahmed, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2021.
In a statement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new NEMA Director-General’ and signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, the Presidency noted that Umar’s appointment is part of the President’s commitment to gender inclusion.
With over 20 years of experience in human resources, finance, and administration, Umar brings a wealth of expertise to her new role.
She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration, holding ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing.
During her tenure as the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Umar played a pivotal role in the institution’s transformation into a modern, digitised mortgage and financial service provider.
Ngelale stated that the President expects Umar to bring much-needed financial and operational discipline to NEMA.
Additionally, she is tasked with refashioning the agency into a performance-driven and proactive emergency response provider, with a particular focus on prevention and climate change readiness in executing its core mandate.
News About Nigeria reported that Tinubu appointed Dr. Temitope Ilori as the new Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) on Thursday.
The appointment was contained in a statement by the agency’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Toyin Aderibigbe.
According to the statement, Ilori was appointed as the agency’s first female Director-General, and her four-year term began on February 22, 2024.
Before her appointment, Dr. Ilori was a senior lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine, University of Ibadan, and a consultant family physician in the Department of Family Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan.
She also worked as the Commissioner for Health, in Osun State, from 2011 to 2014 and as Chairperson of, the Osun State Agency on Control of HIV/AIDS.
