NSF Gets New Chairman After Ningi’s Resignation

The Northern Senators Forum on Thursday appointed a new chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, following the resignation of its former chairman, Senator Abdul Ningi, News About Nigeria reports.

The former chairman of the Northern Senators Forum resigned following his suspension from the Senate on Tuesday.

The Senate had suspended Ningi because of his allegation that they could not account for N3.7 trillion, which was in the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

His suspension came after Jimoh Ibrahim, the Ondo Senator, moved the motion over the controversial BBC Hausa interview he (Ningi) had, where he said there were two versions of the 2024 budget passed in the National Assembly.

Following his suspension for three months, the Bauchi Central Senator tendered his resignation as the leader of the NSF.

The new Chairman of the NSF, Yar’Adua, is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the lawmaker representing Katsina Central in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.

Ningi is also the younger brother of the former President of Nigeria, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who died in office in 2010.

He is also the younger brother of former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, who died while imprisoned by the Abacha government in Abakaliki in 1997.

Similarly, the forum also named Senator Tahir Mungono, who is representing Borno North, as its spokesperson to replace Senator Sumaila Kawu.

The Senate also warned Kawu to stop sharing posts capable of causing unrest in the country in the aftermath of the allegations of N3 trillion in budget padding made by the Bauchi senator.
