Following his three-month suspension from the Senate House of Assembly on Tuesday, the senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi, has resigned from his position as the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum.
News About Nigeria reported that Ningi was suspended on Tuesday because of his allegations that about N3.7 trillion in the budget is unaccounted for in terms of project implementation.
The Senate, in response to his allegation, had passed a resolution to suspend the lawmaker for three months.
Announcing his suspension during plenary today, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio noted that proper investigation would be carried out on Ningi’s allegation.
The suspension, according to the Senate, was on the grounds that there is no evidence proving that the 2024 budget was padded as alleged by Ningi.
In the resignation letter which was sent by Ningi shortly after his suspension, the lawmaker noted that recent happenings in the nation, northern Nigeria and the National Assembly prompted his resignation.
He also appreciated the forum for the privilege to lead them in the last eight months.
The suspension letter which was submitted today reads: “I would like to resign my position as the Chairman of the Northern Senators forum. This is of course necessitated by unfolding events in the National Assembly, the North and the Nation at large.
“I would like to specially thank members of the forum for the opportunity given to me for the last eight (8) months to spearhead this very important forum. I believe this forum is very important and fundamental to the progress and development of Northern Nigeria.”
