Tochi Wigwe, daughter of the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, delivered a heartfelt tribute during the Night of Tributes held at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Wednesday night.
The funeral rites for Dr. Wigwe, his wife, and his son began on Monday, March 4, following their tragic deaths in a helicopter accident in the United States.
Tochi expressed admiration for her father’s extraordinary qualities, recounting instances of his dedication, love, and support.
She stated that her father was a feminist and championed equality, describing him as a tower of strength with a heart as soft as silk.
Tochi shared personal anecdotes, such as her father travelling across continents just to spend a few minutes with her while studying overseas.
She reflected on the influence Dr. Wigwe had on her and her friends, encouraging them to elevate their aspirations.
Tochi acknowledged that her father’s passing left a huge void, but expressed gratitude for the invaluable support system he had cultivated.
“Who will prompt me to flash a peace sign in every photo; who will engage in marathon debates with my friends and myself on flights to Cape Town; who will inquire “what are they saying about me online today?” And who will ask me about my thoughts on Wigwe University.
“You were Paradox, a tower of strength with a heart as soft as silk. You can never raise your voice at me without calling me an hour later to apologise. Your influence extended far beyond our family circle.
“You effortlessly convinced my friends that their futures lay in Nigeria, urging them to elevate their aspirations.
“You’ve left me with enormous shoes to fill but you’ve also gifted me with an unwavering support system,” she said.
The funeral programmes continue with a Combined Service of Songs at RCCG, Resurrection Parish, on Thursday, March 7, at 10 am.
A Christian wake-keeping will be held at Wigwe University, Isiokpo, Rivers State, on Friday, March 8, at 7 pm.
