Nigeria Customs Plans To Distribute Seized Rice Again To Alleviate Food Hardship

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Ogun Command, has announced plans to commence another round of distribution of seized rice and other food items to citizens in an effort to alleviate the food hardship faced by citizens.

News About Nigeria gathered that the distribution is set to take place once the Federal Government finalises the modalities for the exercise.

The NCS said that there is a need for well-thought-out modalities to prevent a repeat of a tragic incident in Lagos, where several people lost their lives while trying to get food items.

The Area Controller of Oyo/Osun Command, Ben Oramalugo, explained that the Federal Government has directed the Nigeria Customs Service to distribute seized rice at a more affordable price to the public to alleviate the challenges arising from food shortages and rising prices.

He said that to ensure fair and transparent distribution, eligible beneficiaries would be carefully screened and verified before receiving the items.

Oramalugo stated, “Once the necessary modalities are in place, the distribution of seized rice will begin. We will provide regular updates to the public on the progress of the distribution.”

He also urged citizens to support government efforts to crack down on smuggling and ensure that only legal goods enter the country.

“In the meantime, we would like to remind everyone that smuggling is illegal and that those who engage in it are subject to serious penalties.

“We urge everyone to support the government’s efforts to crack down on smuggling and ensure that only legal goods are brought into the country,” he said.
