Nollywood has been hit with the sad news of the demise of veteran actor Mr Ibu, whose real name is John Okafor, News About Nigeria reports.

The 62-year-old actor passed away at Evercare Hospital, according to multiple reports from sources close to him.

Fans have taken to various platforms, including social media, to express their condolences, reminiscing about the iconic roles and memorable performances by the late actor in numerous movies.

Instagram blogger Tosin Silverdam shared the latest information, confirming that Mr Ibu passed away in the early hours of the day at the Evercare Hospital in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.

The news follows a series of critical health challenges faced by John Okafor in November 2023, which led to the amputation of his legs.

The actor, in need of financial assistance for his medical treatment, received overwhelming support from well-wishers.

In a statement released by his family after the surgery, it was revealed that Mr Ibu underwent a total of seven successful surgeries, with the decision to amputate one of his legs made to save his life.

The family expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support and acknowledged the challenging period they had faced.

“As of 1 pm today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries, but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery, one of his legs had to be amputated. This development has been hard on us all, but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality to keep him alive,” the family statement read.

The late actor’s contribution to Nollywood and his impact on fans will be remembered as the industry mourns his passing.

This is coming just a day after Nollywood mourned the loss of Yoruba actor Sisi Quadri.

The news of his demise was announced by his colleagues in the Yoruba movie industry, leaving fans and fellow actors in mourning.

Nollywood actress Abiola Bayo took to her verified Instagram handle to express her condolences, stating, “You will be greatly missed, Sisi Quadri. May your soul rest in perfect peace.”
