Power Supply Returns To Northern States After Blackout

The Federal Government has stated that the poor power supply in the country is thwarting the economy and leading to an economic crisis, News About Nigeria reports.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, stated this during the electricity and energy access session at the Nigeria International Energy Summit, NIES, in Abuja.

He noted that the abysmal level of power supply in the country is denying citizens the opportunity to live a good life.

He lamented the fact that Nigeria resided at the bottom of the hierarchy of nations in terms of power production and supply to households, businesses, and industries, noting that it has denied Nigerians access to the good life.

“It is unfortunate that Nigeria is on the low ebb in the hierarchy of nations in terms of power production and supply to households, businesses and industries. This has not only hindered our economic growth and industrial development; it has also denied our people access to good life,” he said.

He, however, assured the people that the government was doing everything to ensure that the power supply improved across the country.

Chief Adelabu noted that with the 700 megawatts of Zungeru Hydro set to join the grid in the next two weeks and work ongoing to complete evacuation infrastructure for the 40 MW Kashimbilla Hydro, power supply through the grid would steadily improve.

He added that the government was also working to put in place gas supply contracts for the power plants under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) managed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC.

He therefore urged stakeholders to work together to bridge the energy access gap in Nigeria and across African countries.
