The Ondo State Police Command has cautioned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against allowing the nationwide planned protest to be hijacked by hoodlums, News About Nigeria reports.
The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, gave this warning, appealing to Congress to shield the protest from both hoodlums and fifth columnists.
Oladipo, who held a meeting with the union leaders in Akure ahead of the protest scheduled to be held today and tomorrow, stated that they should stick to their agenda, which he noted is a peaceful protest, and not allow it to degenerate into a breakdown of law and order under the pretence of hijacking by a fifth columnist.
According to the spokesperson for the command, Funmi Odunlami, the meeting centred basically on how the protest will be conducted without infringing on the rights of law-abiding residents and shun activities that may lead to a breakdown of law and order, including violence and other vices.
“Oladipo warned the labour leaders of the command’s preparedness to deal decisively with individuals who may want to cause the breakdown of law and order.
“He has therefore ordered the immediate deployment of officers and men to strategic areas within the state to ward off miscreants who may want to hijack the protest,” she said.
The state chairman of the union, Comrade Victor Amoko, however, assured the people that arrangements have been made to ensure the protest is peaceful, adding that the protest is to enhance constructive criticism and robust dialogue on ways to move the country forward.
