Gas Important In Nigeria's Energy Transition - Verheijen

On Tuesday, the Federal Government (FG) debunked news making the rounds that there was an attempted coup against the Bola Tinubu-led government.

News About Nigeria learned that there were reports on Monday that the Nigerian military tried to unseat the current federal government in a coup but failed.

Though the Nigerian military has also debunked the news, because it is fake and baseless, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said in a statement that “the report is unequivocally false and is a heinous act of disinformation.”

According to him, fake news is the handiwork of individuals whose primary intent is to sow the seed of discord in Nigeria.

He also noted that their primary agenda is to spur Nigerians to hate the current leadership.

In his own words, “The figment of the warped imagination of detractors, whose malicious intent is to destabilise the country and undermine the present administration. It is now evident that some desperate individuals have resorted to publishing fake news to erode public trust in the government and sow the seed of discord in the country.

“The government will exercise its rights within the laws to contain rogue actions to destabilise national security and the nation’s hard-earned democracy.”

The Minister further charged the general public to ignore the false report as nothing of such ever happened.

He also stated that the current government is not distracted by all the challenges as it is concerned with ensuring economic stability.

Idris also tasked the general public especially reporters to always verify any information before publicizing it.
