Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, has responded to the inauguration of two judicial commissions by his successor, Governor Hyacinth Alia.
News About Nigeria gathered that the commissions are tasked with investigating the activities of Ortom’s administration from 2015 to 2023.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Terver Akase, on Tuesday, Ortom said he is willing to cooperate with the probe panels, provided that the investigations are conducted in accordance with the law.
He said that his administration was founded on principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance.
The statement read, “He emphasises his readiness to provide any information or clarification, as may be required. Chief Ortom urges his former appointees to equally make themselves available whenever called upon to provide clarifications.”
Ortom had previously expressed his readiness to address any issues concerning his administration, maintaining a commitment to the rule of law.
In August of the previous year, the former governor affirmed his capability to respond to allegations against him and officials of his government.
Addressing concerns about his political affiliation, Ortom, who lost a bid for a senatorial seat under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reiterated his allegiance to the PDP during an expanded executive meeting of the party on Monday.
He urged PDP members in the state to unite, as they need to move forward collectively after the 2023 general election.
Ortom also dismissed reports suggesting his intention to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he remains a member of the PDP.
