Shaibu Confirms That He Is An Unofficial Member Of APC

The deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has secured victory and emerged as the winner of the parallel People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Edo State, News About Nigeria reports.

The deputy governor clinched victory, beating nine other aspirants with over 301 (three hundred and one) votes.

It was recorded that 10 aspirants fought for the governorship ticket of the ruling PDP in Edo State today.

With no fewer than 576 delegates deciding the fate of the 10 aspirants at the primaries held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, the Governor Godwin Obaseki faction of the party has yet to commence its election.

The exercise was, however, conducted by an electoral committee headed by the governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwhori of Delta as co-chairman. Other members of the committee are Senator James Manager (secretary), Senator Bayero Nafada, Mrs. Nella Rabana, SAN, Hadiza Mustapha, and Chief Felix Hyatt.

Recall also that the State Organising Secretary of the Party, Tony Anenih Jr., had earlier released the processes of the exercise in a statement, highlighting where the delegates and other people involved in the process, including the media, would gather, how they would be accredited, and how the exercise would be conducted.

After weeks of consultations amid high-wire intrigues, a host of the aspirants are upbeat over their chances of winning the ticket in what is being billed as a two-horse race between Ighodalo and Ogbeide-Ihama.

The 10 aspirants who contested the governorship primary in the state are the former chairman of Edo State; Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, Anselem Ojezia, Felix Akhabue, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the deputy governor of Edo State; Philip Shaibu, Arthur Esene, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Amb. Martin Uhumoibi, Osaro Onaiwu, and Umoru Hadizat.
