The Niger Delta youths have demanded that the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC’s Hope Project in the nine states of the region be implemented with immediate effect, News About Nigeria reports.
Spokesman of the group, Niger Delta Youths, Mr. Adokiye Mugeton, gave this call while speaking to newsmen on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He noted that the project was needed to quickly ameliorate the present economic hardship being faced in the states of the federation.
According to him, the youths had harboured hope during the commissioning of the Hope Project by the Managing Director and management team of the board, who within the period of the inauguration assured them of the creation of 10,000 jobs and other sustainable empowerment for the states in the Niger Delta.
Mugeton expressed disappointment that, in the course of the youths monitoring the consultants handling the projects, it was discovered, to their greatest surprise, that the implementation of the NDDC Hope Projects was moving at a slow pace and barely happening.
According to him, the youths across the Niger Delta had confidence in the Managing Director of the Development Commission of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuke-led board, and they were living below the expectations of the youths.
“We regret that they are not living up to the expectations of the people of the Niger Delta,” he said.
He therefore called on the management of the commission to ensure that they remove every bureaucracy and bottleneck that may frustrate the smooth implementation of the Hope Projects in line with the blueprint as presented earlier.
