Lagos Alert Residents Of Flood, Calls For Action To Tackle It

The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) on Tuesday tasked residents of the Command area in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State to use alternative routes to their destinations due to the floods on major roads.

News About Nigeria gathered that the floods were a result of the heavy rain that fell in the early hours of today.

According to reports, the rain, which started at about 2 am and 5 am in some areas and spread across the state, lasted a few minutes before 10 am on Tuesday.

The Lagos Coordinator of the NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, tasked residents of the Command area against using the Command bridge because it has been submerged by the flood.

In a statement issued, Farinloye urged residents to avoid the bridge for their safety, noting that plying it would expose them to danger.

He also revealed that due to the damage caused by the flood, joint teams including NEMA, the Fire Service, and the Police are actively engaged in rescuing trapped individuals from the affected area.

The statement partly reads, “The residents of Command Area are urged to take alternative routes by avoiding Command and the near areas as flood have overran the bridge. NEMA, Fire Service and Police are working to get trapped people out of the area presently.”

Farinloye further stated that the warning is also to avoid a repetition of the havoc caused by the flood last year, when one person was killed in a flood that wreaked havoc at Gate House, Gold Crescent, Lagos State Development and Property Corporation Bungalow Scheme, Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos.
