Nigerian afrobeat star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, announced on Tuesday a donation of 300 million Naira to orphanages across the country.
In a post on his official X account, Davido disclosed that he will share details of the disbursement on Wednesday.
His post reads, “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million Naira to orphanages around Nigeria … as my yearly contribution to the nation. Details of disbursement tomorrow.”
News About Nigeria reports that Davido, along with his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation, have annually made donations to orphanages.
Some of the donations to foster homes in Nigeria by Davido and his foundation include the donation of N250 million to 292 orphanages in commemoration of his 29th birthday in November 2021.
Also, in July 2023, the musician donated N237 million to over 400 orphanages in Nigeria.
Speaking after the donation in 2023, Davido explained that he had always wanted to use his platform to serve others, and he is grateful that he can do so through the David Adeleke Foundation and the support of partners.
He further noted that he is a firm believer in the statement, “we rise by lifting others,” which is why he is out to put the words into action.
Davido also explained that he founded the David Adeleke Foundation with a strong desire and passion to continually assist others and create a proper framework for ongoing charitable works to benefit the good people of Nigeria.
He further noted that, through the foundation, they have and will continue to raise millions of Naira and disburse much-needed funds to hundreds of orphanages, to significantly improve the lives of countless children.
