NYSC: 1,850 Corps Members To Be Deployed To Gombe

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Saturday debunked the allegations making the rounds that the prices of food in camp markets are very expensive.

News About Nigeria reported that there have been claims by some corps members who are currently undergoing their three weeks of camping in the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 that food prices in orientation camps are too expensive and unaffordable.

However, in a statement released by NYSC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, on Saturday, he noted that the allegations were “laughable, absurd, and unfortunate.”

In the statement, Megwa further noted that the narrative that is now making the rounds on social media is unfounded and nothing but lies.

He also condemned a circular that is also making the rounds, which suggested that the NYSC state coordinator encouraged corps members to leave the orientation camp due to food shortages.

“The story is nothing but a tissue of lies, intended to cause mischief,” the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations explained.

Speaking further, he noted that state coordinators and other camp officials of the NYSC would never allow such a thing to happen because they are seasoned leaders who are dedicated to the service and the well-being of corps members.

Megwa also noted that there is an already laid-out outline of how camp operations should be, including the feeding of corps members.

He further noted that camp markets are also under the regulation of the NYSC, so they must abide by it and ensure that corps members can get them at affordable prices.
