The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, said on Friday that they would properly account for all money received for the Obi-Datti campaign during the last election, News About Nigeria reports.
In a statement released on his official X account, Obi revealed that they have already commenced the public accounting process for the Obi-Datti campaign funds for the 2023 general election, starting with the crowdfunding, and that Nigerians contributed to the endeavour.
According to him, the team for the accountability process for the crowdfunding that was done yesterday was led by Aisha Yesufu.
Obi further revealed that, aside from yesterday’s accountability process for the crowdfunding, they would ensure that they accounted for all those who supported them, either in cash or kind, to assure them that their contributions were properly used for the purpose for which they were sought.
The former Anambra state governor also noted that they would also direct support groups and bodies that worked for the Obi-Datti campaign team and the Labour Party to also account for every money donated to them.
The statement partly reads, “We will also show our donors the very visible success we achieved by the judicious management of their resources, despite having less than 20 percent of our budget to work with.
“The generous support of our donors and their unwavering dedication and commitment to the democratic process, which we are committed to, have not gone unnoticed. Despite the challenges and obstacles that came our way, they stood strong and played a crucial role in shaping the future of our nation.”
Obi also revealed that beginning at the end of the first quarter of this year, he would be embarking on a ‘thank you’ tour to physically appreciate all Obi-Datti supporters across the nation.
The LP flagbearer in the last election further appreciated all their supporters for staying with them in the journey, noting that their support has made a significant impact on their journey, and undeniably, the political landscape of the nation will never be the same again.
He also noted that their dream for a new Nigeria will never die, and they remain committed to it until it is actualised.
