The Oyo State Government has taken action against quackery in the healthcare sector, shutting down six health facilities in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
In a statement released on Thursday, the state government revealed that the affected health facilities were sealed due to various offences, including the recruitment of unqualified personnel to provide medical services and engagement in illicit practices.
The identified facilities include New Jobi Memorial Hospital, Omolara Clinic and Maternity Home, Amazing Grace Medical Clinic, Emiloju Clinic and Maternity Centre, Safeway Clinic, and Emilagba Clinic and Maternity Centre.
Dr. Adekunle Aremu, the Chairman of the State Antiquackery Task Force Committee, said that the government will continue to safeguard the health and well-being of residents.
The task force conducted the operation to enforce regulatory standards and eliminate quackery in healthcare services.
Aremu mentioned that anyone found guilty of engaging in quackery would face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
He urged the public to seek medical services only from accredited and registered health facilities in the state, emphasising the importance of ensuring that qualified personnel attend to their medical needs.
“The goals remain clear, Oyo State government is dedicated to upholding rigorous standards and prioritising the health and safety of every resident.
“The government ensures that healthcare services consistently meet the highest benchmarks for quality and safety, so citizens can trust their well-being,” he said.
The recent closure of six health facilities follows earlier actions taken by the state government, including the sealing off of two private hospitals in Oyo town.
The government reiterates its stance against quackery and illegal practices in the healthcare sector.
