The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has finally responded to the fraud allegation levied against him by the suspended National Treasurer of the Party, Oluchi Oparah.
Speaking as a guest on Arise News on Thursday, Abure tasked Oparah with backing her allegations against him with proof and clear evidence, as they were unfounded.
The National Chairman of the LP, while denying the allegation, noted that Oparah acted against the party as an opposition and hater of the new Nigerian mission of the LP.
He also added that the allegations against him were also orchestrated to spoil his image and that of the LP.
News About Nigeria recalls that the suspended national treasurer of the LP, in a press conference on Monday, asked Abure to account for N3.5 billion, which was raised from the sale of nomination forms and fundraising activities in the build-up to the 2023 general election.
She had also accused Abure of involving in anti-party activities with the Edo state government, which is led by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During his interview at Arise News, he revealed that the money that entered his account before the 2023 poll was a total of N1.3 billion, as against Oparah’s N3.5 billion claim.
Abure, who also revealed that he had never stopped Oparah from carrying out her duties including receiving money and signing cheques, showed documents and copies of the cheques that were allegedly signed by the treasurer.
He said, “Total summary of the money that entered into the party was N1.3 billion. We also got N800m for the campaign. I want to challenge her to make the records available where she got the sum of N3.5 billion.”
“I have never stopped Oluchi Oparah from carrying out her duties, including receiving money and signing of cheques. The electronic payment funds meant for the party are automatically transferred.”
