Labour Party Suspends National Treasurer For Six Months Over Anti-Party Activities

Following the accusation made by the national treasurer of the Labour Party (LP), Oluchi Opara, against the party’s national chairman, Julius Abure, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has suspended her for six months.

Opara’s suspension was announced by the National Publicity Secretary of the LP at a press conference held on Wednesday at the party secretariat in Abuja.

News About Nigeria reported that on Monday, Opara accused the LP National Chairman of being unable to account for an alleged N3.5 billion that was raised from the sale of nomination forms and fundraising activities in the build-up to the 2023 general election.

She had also accused Abure of partaking in anti-party activities like working hand-in-hand with the Edo State Government, which is governed by the opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, reacting to her claims in the press conference, Ifoh stated that Opara’s claims were unfounded and that she was only being used by haters of the LP to destroy their good image.

Speaking on the six-month suspension slammed on Opara by the Labour Party, the party spokesman noted that the decision to sanction her was reached after she failed to honour an invitation by the party’s National Working Committee to resolve the conflict.

Ifoh further stated that the suspension commences with immediate effect.

He said, “The disciplinary committee has, however, recommended to the National Executive Council of the party through the NWC that Ms. Oluchi Opara be suspended from Labour Party for a minimum of six months. This suspension is with immediate effect.

“We see this as an affront to the party leadership and millions of our members who are watching how their party’s image which they have laboured hard to build is trolled by one ingrate.”

While reiterating the LP’s commitment towards ensuring that a new Nigeria is birthed, Ifoh apologised to members of the party, their supporters and the general public, noting that, the LP is a party of integrity and would continue that way.
