Muhammad Bello Shehu, the federal lawmaker representing Fagge Federal constituency in Kano State, has distributed N5 million as start-up capital to 43 entrepreneurs, News About Nigeria reports.
The lawmaker, also known as MB Shehu, disbursed the funds in Fagge Local Government Area, expressing his appreciation for the support received during the 2023 general elections.
Explaining the breakdown, MB Shehu mentioned that 16 entrepreneurs would receive N200,000 each, seven others N100,000 each, and an additional 20 beneficiaries would be granted N50,000 each.
The initiative, launched within two wards in Fagge A and Yanmata Gabas, is set to continue monthly until December this year.
Shehu clarified that the financial support came from his personal monthly salary and was not a constituency project.
He said that the gesture aimed to assist those who played a crucial role in his electoral success.
The lawmaker noted that the beneficiaries, particularly youths and women, deserved the support to boost their existing businesses or start new ventures.
In his remarks, an associate of MB Shehu, Mustapha Isa, assured constituents of more people-oriented projects in the future.
MB Shehu revealed plans for various projects in his constituency, promising improved empowerment schemes in the coming months.
The lawmaker’s initiative aligns with his vision to be a role model for other legislators, contributing to the betterment of the local populace.
It’s noteworthy that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) recently announced its sixth phase of tracking fraudulent constituency projects across Nigeria, emphasising the importance of service delivery to citizens.
The ICPC plans to monitor 1,932 projects valued at N500 billion across multiple states, ensuring transparency and accountability in public projects.
