Despite losing to the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire, the Super Eagles have been lauded by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their performance at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), News About Nigeria reports.

Recall that, the host country, Cote D’Ivoire, on Sunday night beat the Nigerian team 2-1 in the Africa Cup of Nations final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium to become the reigning champions.

In a statement released on Monday by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, the Governor commended the team for fighting gallantly from the beginning of the AFCON tournament to the end.

Sanwo-Olu also lauded the Super Eagles for making the nation proud by putting their best in the game.

According to the Governor, he was impressed with the Nigerian team from the beginning of the competition to the finals as they always exceeded expectations with their skills.

In the statement, the Governor appreciated the players, their coaches, and the entire crew for putting Nigeria in the spotlight and for making Nigerians happy.

He further noted that reaching the finals and also losing honourably was one thing to be proud of as the team never relented for one day throughout the competition instead, they showed their unwavering commitment, dedication, resilience and determination to bring the cup home.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also encouraged the Nigerian team to not give up but to look forward to future games and be determined to win again even if they couldn’t this time.

He also charged Nigerians who were disappointed by Sunday’s match, to not give up but to continue to support the Super Eagles even in subsequent matches.
