AFCON: Iwobi Reacts To Criticism, Deletes Photos On Instagram Page

Following outrage on social media against Super Eagles star, Alexander Chuka Iwobi popularly known as Alex Iwobi that he caused the failure of the Nigerian team against the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire, Iwobi has gone ahead to delete all the posts on his Instagram account.

News About Nigeria recalls that the Nigerian team was on Sunday night defeated 2-1 by the hosts, Ivory Coast, making the team the second in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament

Iwobi also featured for 79 minutes in the match that led to Nigeria’s defeat to Ivory Coast before he was replaced by Alhassan Yusuf.

While the Nigerian team has been lauded for their performance at the AFCON tournament regardless of the defeat by people like President Bola Tinubu, some Nigerians took to different social media platforms to troll Iwobi, naming him as the cause of Nigeria’s failure.

Some netizens had alleged that the Super Eagles star who also plays as a midfielder for Premier League club, Fulham, was not meant to be part of the formation for last night’s match.

Also, others had criticized him on the grounds that football was not his calling, adding that he should consider going into modeling or any fashion-inclined career instead of continuing in football when he knows “nothing about it.”

A video was shared on Instagram by popular controversial social media activist, VeryDarkman, had also accused Iwobi of ruining the match.

According to him, Iwobi was only concerned about how he looked instead of striving for the Super Eagles to win the match.

VeryDarkman also alleged that Iwobi is not in any way related to Jay-Jay Okocha because he has failed to prove that he has the same blood as the former Super Eagles player who is one of the greatest football players from Africa.

In response to the criticisms, Iwobi deleted all the posts on his Instagram Page leaving only a video of an advert he did for a brand, “Fail Forward.”

Iwobi also locked the comment section of the video which happens to be the only post he left on his Instagram page.

Checks by News About Nigeria show that he left all posts shared on his X account and his comment section is still open.
