AFCON: REPS Congratulates Super Eagles Despite Defeat

Despite the inability of Nigeria’s Super Eagles to win the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, the House of Representatives has congratulated the team for their outstanding performance and for winning the silver prize.

Coming out second at the 2023 African Cup of Nations makes it the fifth time that the Super Eagles’ team has won a silver prize.

The House of Representatives in a statement released on Monday through the spokesman for the house, Akin Rotimi appreciated the Super Eagles for playing well in the finals against Ivory Coast on Sunday.

The lawmakers also appreciated their coaches and other team members for carrying Nigeria to the finals and for also doing amazingly well.

They further expressed their excitement over the win of Nigeria’s captain, William Ekong, who emerged as ‘Man of the Competition,’ noting that he won it for the nation and has made Nigeria proud.

According to the Lawmakers, based on the performance of the Eagles at the tournament they deserved victory but narrowly lost the AFCON trophy to the host nation.

They, however, noted that “Nevertheless, they have proven that Nigeria remains the giant of Africa in sport and other endeavours. During the tournament, Nigerians showed that we are one great nation. Nigerians are proud of you.”

The lawmakers further stated that the AFCON tournament was a blessing to Nigeria as it has caused Nigerians irrespective of their tribes or religion to be united as one as they showed unrelenting support to the team.

Speaking further, the Lawmakers added that the achievement of the Super Eagles would serve as an inspiration and motivation to not just those in the sports industry but many Nigerians across the globe who strive for excellence in their various spheres of influence.

The House also noted that the Eagles’ performance is a call to other Nigerians in various spheres to do more in order to bring the spotlight to the nation.

The lawmakers also vowed that they will continue to be committed to the growth of sports and youth development in Nigeria.

News About Nigeria reported that the Super Eagles had on Sunday night lost 2-1 to the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the final match of the AFCON, 2023.
