Business magnate Femi Otedola has shared memories of his last meeting with the late Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash near the Nevada border in California, United States, on Friday.
News About Nigeria reported that Wigwe, his wife, son, and two others, including the former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbajo, were on board the ill-fated helicopter.
Taking to X on Sunday, Otedola disclosed that just two weeks before the fatal crash, Wigwe and his wife had hosted him and fellow businessman Aliko Dangote for dinner at their newly built home in Lagos.
Otedola expressed his deep sadness over the loss of “a banking genius” and shared his condolences with Wigwe’s children—Tochi, Hannah, and David.
Otedola’s X message read: “Exactly two weeks ago, Herbie and his wife hosted myself and Aliko to dinner at his newly built home in Lagos. I will cherish and fondly remember my memories of time spent together with him over the years. Herbie, we will all miss you.
“Your legacy will live on forever. My heartfelt condolences go out to his children Tochi, Hannah, and David. I pray God comforts them during this tragic time.”
The death of Herbert Wigwe has reverberated across the business community, with many expressing shock and sadness at the untimely loss.
President Bola Tinubu, in a statement released on Sunday, described the incident as “an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension.”
