Motorists To Experience Two Days Diversion In Lagos

The Lagos State Government has cautioned drivers in the state against driving cars without plate numbers, News About Nigeria reports.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, issued the warning in a statement on Friday in Lagos, signed by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the ministry.

He noted that driving cars that do not have accurate plate numbers is not only a breach of traffic laws but also poses a significant threat to public safety and security.

He noted that driving without visible number plates hampers the efforts of law enforcement officers to keep people safe and complicates the identification of vehicles involved in criminal activities, adding that it will no longer be tolerated.

Osiyemi maintained that it is necessary for motorists to prominently display valid, unobstructed number plates in adherence to TSRL 2018, adding that motorists involved in the opposite act are violating sections 15 and 16 of the state’s Transport Reform Law (TSRL 2018).

He also noted that according to Section 16 of the TSRL 2018, a person who drives a vehicle that is not registered or has not affixed identification marks in the prescribed manner commits an offence.

The transportation commissioner, therefore, urged motorists to comply voluntarily and adhere to the state’s traffic rules and regulations, stating that motorists who drive vehicles without proper number plates or use covered ones stand the risk of attracting penalties, including having their vehicles impounded or paying fines.

He also assured the public that the state government remained unwavering in its commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for all road users.
