The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and Abuja has called on the Federal Government to put an end to the worsening insecurity in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The Association made this appeal in a statement released by its Secretary-General, Elder Sunday Oibe, in Kaduna on Friday.
The Christian Association noted that the security situation in the country is escalating daily, in addition to the depressing state of the economy.
It was noted that the killings and kidnappings in various parts of the country are becoming rampant.
The Northern CAN also raised concerns about the degenerating economy, stating that the suffering in the country is becoming unbearable for ordinary Nigerians.
It also lamented that the high cost of foodstuffs, transportation, goods, and services has made life difficult for many Nigerians, adding that the epileptic power supply has led to the collapse of many small businesses.
“The continued decline in the value of the naira and the seeming inability of the government to address the situation has completely weakened the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians.
“The situation is further compounded by escalating insecurity occasioned by rampant killings and kidnappings for ransom,” the statement reads in part.
The Association therefore appealed to the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, step in and address the issues threatening the peace and prosperity of Nigerians.
CAN also urged President Bola Tinubu to bring justice to those who have lost their lives to terrorists by apprehending them and making them face the wrath of the law, maintaining that until that is done, all the peace talks will be mere rhetoric.
